Under suspicion of selling crack cocaine to toddlers, 3 year old Samantha Palmer was confronted by NYPD at noon on Thursday May 1st 2008 in the South East side of Central Park while she played ball with colleagues. “Samantha barely had time to throw the ball, when out of no where three plain clothes detectives emptied round after round of bullets into my poor baby’s face, 274 bullets total” said Jessica Palmer, Samantha’s distressed mother. “What is worse,” she adds, “is that NYPD detectives Sean Bell, Abner Louima, and Amadou Diallo were not only dismissed of charges but commended for their act of bravery.” “I don’t know about you, but I think this is an outrage” says Arny Palmer father of “victim” Samantha. During a press conference in the Upper East Side Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that the “NYPD acted according to empirical code,” and “this is what gives New York City a growing sense of safety”. Bloomberg’s declaration was met with roaring applause, fireworks and first-annual 3 day NYPD Pride Festival at Madison Square Garden.
Let’s get serious…
Obviously I am personally impassioned by the death of Sean Bell and the repeated acts of aggression against people of color that I see throughout New York City but especially in my neighborhood of west Harlem on 145th st and St. Nicholas ave. Surely there are broader more root causes of racism, but confronting heinous manifestations of it, (like the death of Sean Bell) we are able to construct more concrete methods of fighting it. The first resource listed below is titled “We are all Sean Bell”. Indeed, acts of unnecessary aggression against one person by the state is an act of aggression against all of us who live under their bidding. Solutions?
With the availability of cheap and small video cameras I propose that more people should buy video cameras to capture police/civilian conflicts and post them on sites like You Tube. This provides for indisputable evidence of possible brutality. Although the police will try to intimidate you, recording them is legal as long as you are in a public space. ¡Shoot Back! Carry your camera and start exposing.
More protests and acts of civil disobedience are scheduled this week to block traffic at 6 key locations in New York City.
Resources…
What has this world come to. How awful, the NYPD should be ashamed of their selves.
I also wanted to add that I cannot find any articles about this poor child. The NYPD must be keeping this hush hush. How would they feel if it was their 3 year old child.
isn’t this from the onion….
I’m from Missouri and just stumbled on this story. Is it true or not? About Samantha Palmer?
Alberto, you genius you. I know this is all crazy and all, fucking three year olds need to get an education but unfortunately they wont be able to learn another language because of budget cuts of millions of dollars in language programs. Ill be in New York soon, I want to discuss this article with you one and one.
